EV car driving phenomenon

Has anyone else noticed how EV’s behave / drive on the road ?

I first noticed it as a passenger in Uber’s, as they try to maintain a constant speed and the driver is on and off the throttle you, get a rocking sensation as the regeneration kicks in slowing them and then they have to apply the throttle again, whereas in petrol diesel the engine breaking is nowhere near as severe.

Then if you are following an EV in town they appear to “hesitate” or slow down for no reason, again I am guessing this is the driver just lifting off and regeneration kicking in.

On long down hill stretches I see brake lights coming on when they are not slowing down, but have simply lifted off, to coast down the hill.
Yes. The I-Pace has two regen settings and needs 3 really I suspect. The MG ZS we had before was easier to drive smooth as had 3 regen settings. On the I-Pace with only these two settings, the more aggressive setting is too harsh IMHO and the less aggressive setting not aggressive enough. It needs something in between. Not sure if this can be tuned or adjusted. That and the weak standard conventional brakes are the only downsides I would attach to an I-Pace.

It does make it hard to drive smooth and gives that see saw effect if your inputs on the aggressive setting are small. I expect the brake lights come on quite a bit when regen is in the aggressive setting where you would normally coast in an ICE with no brake lights showing. I expect the less aggressive regen setting will not trigger the brake lights anywhere near as much.

As the motors and drivetrain power in an EV is so instant it does create that very sensitive power on power off motion. An old slushbox auto on an older car like my E55K estate is so much nicer and easier to drive smoothly.
