Not that I'm aware of. I like most of the others leave mine connected all the time the car is not in use. Shut the boot fully.and lock it fine with no issues.

I thought the point of trickle charge was to keep the battery topped up and the electrics of the car not failing etc I.e. by keeping it connected to the car.
Only when attaching the eyelets did I disconnect the battery

Make sure you disconnect it before you drive off! on my old car it was connected via the bonnet so pretty obvious. Today I drove out of the garage and the extension wire is now in two bits! haha

Do trickle chargers not need the battery terminals to be disconnected?

It depends on the capacity of the charger. If the charger rating is higher than the drain on the battery from the car then you are in essence running the car from the mains and using the excess capacity to charge the battery.

The important thing here is that batteries need cycles, but not deep ones unless they are designed for it. So if you have a trickle charger and not a "intelligent" charger it is advisable to switch it off for periods to allow the battery to cycle maintaining its capacity. You could use a household plug timer to make it automatic.
