Apple Watch

I am a bit of an Apple fanboy but have held back from rushing out and buying the watch as it appeared to be going down the route of those blutooth earpieces that could instantly turn anyone, no matter how cool into a bit of a dick.

A mate of mine has bought one and i have to say i was impressed. Functionality will improve as apps are developed but with Apple pay emerging on the scenes it makes a very quick way to swipe and pay.

The last watch i bought was in 1997....my trusty Gucci which has never missed a beat and accompanied me on many a session and always survived so buying a new watch is a big step for me.

Your thoughts....

I am no techy Matt but I couldn't really see the point of it when Liz went to look at one. Trying to look at stuff on that small face would drive me mad........but then as I say I am no techy and a watch for my shelf should be simple and just tell the time.

It's all a very personal choice at the end of the day.

Bit like our choice of car.

Personally, I'm an analogue watch guy myself.

Own Panerai due to its exquisite, timeless design and storied history. Bit like Maserati.

My own view is these Apple Watches are a fad and will come and go.

A smart analogue watch from one of the top makers is forever.

Plan to hand my Panerais on to my children.

Much as I'm not an apple fan, I have to admit that these will go to the top of the pile of smart watches out there very quickly. Fiona, like you, loves Apple, so I have no doubt one will appear here too at some point so I say go for it if you are in the market for a smart watch.

Yep. Same here Andy.

Quite like Apple myself, have a desktop and ipad.

Their watches not for me but can appreciate their appeal, especially to the younger generation.

Matt - Apple have already talked about 2.0 watch at the developer conference. Not sure about the release date.

I have decided to wait and will go for one of those. all the lessons around battery life and user preferences will have been learnt.

That was just the software v2.0

No mention of new hardware, apple isn't George Osborne!

I like the functionality. I'm looking for a time when people think beyond a 'watch'

I want to keep wearing my watches.

Ahh - the propaganda worked on me. I guess the hardware will be updated in September, much like the iPhone cycle.

Here's an alternative.

http://eud.dx.com/product/no-1-sun-...meter-300kp-cam-silver-844389367#.VZzUyvlVhBc

For 37 notes you get a device that actually looks and feels like a watch- circular design with with several changeable clock faces, stainless steel casing and bracelet. It runs the Mediatek MT6260 with 64 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM, 1.22" HD IPS capacitive screen made of nano tempered glass, 380 mAh Li polymer battery with up to 100 hours standby claimed so does not require daily charging. Available in Black, Chrome and Gold.

It supports voice calls/texts, push notifications from Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp and various other apps (not on iOS). It also includes a heart rate monitor that uses LED based technology found on more expensive smartwatches, an ECG app, a thermometer, pedometer and sleep monitor. It even has a spy cam ( variously cited as 300 KP or 1.3 MP) hidden in the crown to satisfy your voyeuristic urges lol

There are some reviews to be found on the interweb and You tube (including a lengthy one in Italian) and initial impressions appear to be quite positive.

For me, if you're a big fan of Apple then you will want one but do you actually NEED one? Probably not. I remember when the iPad was launched there were many doubters saying it was just not necessary and would fall between a smart phone and a laptop, and would ever stand there taking photos & videos with one looking like an idiot. I guess the doubters were wrong so on that basis, I am sure they will succeed. They do look very impressive & capable though.

For me, I will stick with a mechanical watch but I also don't own an Apple equipment either. I still play CDs rather than downloads or streamed music so I am hardly the target market!

I've a FitBit which was great for a week. Once I had gathered a week of data I realised that I don't exercise or sleep enough and I wake up several times a night. I was happier when I didn't have that information to hand 24/7. So I haven't worn it since.

Back to my trusty Omega. Still want a Panerai.
