Over the last two years if they didn’t have Helmut and Max they’d still have won both championships and it’s debatable whether Newey has done anything over the last two years either. Of course if Horner had worked for a normal multi-national he’d have gone months ago.
i think normal multi-nationals are governed by the same employment laws and so far he has not been found against. The weight of law has shifted heavily towards employees in the past few years, especially in the EU. Agree that many drivers would have had a good chance but clearly not his team mate.

I don’t think it’s a legal thing or even right/wrong. It also wouldn’t apply to most of us but as the boss of a multinational the “visuals” would have him out on his ear in anywhere else.

Just think about Newey and RB cars, when you look at the “greats”; Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Hamilton and add in Max and Vettel the majority of their championships could be said to have been the car. Even the likes of Stewart, Lauda, Andretti and Clark had arguably the best card under them and a weaker team mate. The only one that springs to mind as having won on diving alone for most of their championships seems to be Fangio as often his direct competition had the same machinery

I don't disagree but so far we only have rumours and conjecture. A qualified employment lawyer has reviewed the case and advised there is no case to answer so firing him or having him leave against his will would be very expensive. Let's see how it plays out.

I reckon the driver is no more than 5%. Probably enough for great drivers to win in 2nd best cars if the top team is not too far away. Alonso in the Renault? I am pretty sure Stroll or probably half the grid would not reel off the wins that Max has done in the current best car, ditto Schumi, Senna, etc.

Not convinced by the 5% statement, how many drivers have driven the same car as Max and not scored anywhere near as many points, the same is true of Schumacher at Ferrari and to some degree Hamilton in anything he's driven. The best drivers won't win in a mediocre or poor car unless there are other factors i.e. weather but they will make the best of what they have and make a good car look unbeatable.

Another sprint weekend but at least the times work a bit better for us on BST, at least we can watch Practise 1 before confirming predictions

Give the entire 20 driver field an RB ... who wins, consistent?

I did an alternative scoring last year based on standard F1 points (25,18,15,12,10,8,6,4,2,1) for the best 10. This way, if you miss a prediction and a boat load of points you can still play in the top for the season. So it might keep it interesting for some of the younger ones. I’m happy to do it again if there is interest.

Max from Alonso for me.
Perhaps Alonso beats Max ... but I think we can say, it's not Sargeant or many other drivers. I'd say Max, Alonso, LeClerc, Hamilton, Lando ... one of those, and it would be an amazing battle. So the driver isn't 5% in my opinion ... because I'd only choose 5 from a field of 20 drivers ... driving technique to save tires, to overtake at the right points (like Max does to retain advantage of DRS) ... all that makes a huge difference in the outcome. Driver is at least 30% to 40% in my mind.

It’s all rather hard to work out. How much of tyre saving technique is from the data and engineers monitoring that data? We know for example that the Redbull aero is optimised to push air into the tyre to provide cooling, does anyone else do this?

Then there is the leadership and motivation the driver provides the team members to perform better in their roles.

It’s much to complex to pin a number on, so I won’t but it’s is fair to say that an average driver could win in an extraordinary car, providing that car is fast enough to beat an extraordinary driver in an average car.

Checo is midfield in my opinion and at some circuits that is good enough for 2nd. Other circuits he puts him in the mix fighting for a podium. Any of the top 6 would be world champion across the season in the RBR. Equally, they wouldn't win a race in a Williams, Alpine, Haas or whatever it is that Tsunoda drives these days so I agree that drivers are important but the car and the team much more.

Right, I've made some major changes to my FantasyGP team, including the removal of Verstappen (who's having a so-so season). Rolling the dice - this is either going to be glorious, or a glorious failure!
